Rules of Conduct for Educational Programs

Body

Stay on topic. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and its audiences expect comments to deal with the topic at hand. You may not prevent the delivery of the scheduled program with off-topic discussion or comments.

Keep the conversation civil. Express yourself in ways that are befitting of an educational environment. Post nothing threatening, sexually explicit, or hateful here. Hateful includes derogatory statements targeting individuals or specific groups; these may be based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or expression, age, and mental or physical ability. No profanity. Criticizing NARA decision making or operations is allowed. Threatening any NARA employee, visitor, volunteer, contractor, other program participant, NARA facilities, or property is not allowed.

No spamming, selling, or advertising. This is not the place to promote products, services, causes, or any candidates.

Allow reuse.  NARA (and those authorized by it) may use what you say to us for noncommercial, educational, or promotional purposes.

Stay lawful. Post only what is yours to post. Do not spread malicious or harmful software or other technology. Do not suggest or encourage illegal activity.

Take personal responsibility. These are public sites. Please do not post personal or other information you would not want the public to know, and again, do not post what is not yours to post.

By registering I agree to the following conditions on my participation:

I am over the age of 18 or I am the teacher or caregiver (for those under the age of 18, a teacher or caregiver must provide written consent to NARA if they wish to register a minor for this program).

I agree that I am responsible for my voluntary participation in the chat and poll features, and any consequences of that participation. I will conceal from view any private, sensitive, or confidential materials, and avoid sharing any information I would not want made public. Similarly, I only will share information, media, or other content that is mine to share during the program and for NARA to use as described in this agreement without the need for further permission from third parties (for example, I will not share someone else’s copyrighted material or personal information).

NARA has the right to copy, modify, publicly share, and otherwise use the recordings, in whole or in part, in all forms of media now known or later developed related to the project and in connection with other standard museum uses, without compensation to me or the need for further approvals. Such standard uses include, but are not limited to, use in connection with archives, exhibitions, philanthropic-fundraising, public programming, publications, publicity, scholarship, websites, and social media platforms where NARA maintains a presence.

I understand that NARA may remove me from the program at any time if it determines that my use of the Q&A or chat and/or polls function does not comply with the Rules of Conduct above.

If I share the webinar and connection information with individuals, such as students in a class, I understand I am responsible for also sharing the Code of Conduct and informing them that failure to comply with the Code may result in removal from the program.

NARA is under no obligation to use any recordings, in whole or in part, if made. The recordings will be archived or disposed of according to applicable NARA  record retention and archiving policies and practices.

I release and hold harmless NARA, its agents, employees, and volunteers, from any and all claims, actions, and demands of whatsoever nature arising out of my participation in the program and NARA’s  use of any recording of the program.
